Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have created an arts and craft box to save up stuff that we would normally throw out or recycle. This includes toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, tissue box… the list goes on. This has been very useful for school projects and other weekend, rainy day crafts just for fun. It also gets them away from the screen for a bit.
I came across this DIY cat pencil holder and thought it would be fun on a rainy day. I definitely had enough toilet paper rolls lying around lol. My girls drew out the shape of the cat – head, tail, heart and coloured, while we helped with gluing the cat together with a glue gun. A normal stick glue was not strong enough to hold the cat together. Further more, we altered the original instructions a little by using a soup can as the leading holder for the pencils. Note: We did take extra precautions to ensure the top of the soup can is not sharp, by smoothing it out.
MATERIALS:
- Ruler
- Black marker
- Pencil
- Glue stick/Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Wood clothespin (to hold the paper down to dry after gluing)
- Toilet paper rolls
- Colored papers (pink, light and dark grey, white, black)
It is as easy as it looks, so I am not going to add the step by step instructions, however, I have included the link to the step by step website that includes a video.
